What We Do
ACORRN - Action Radiotherapy is a new cancer charity dedicated entirely to supporting radiotherapy research and development in the UK. ACORRN - Action Radiotherapy is built on the highly successful Academic Clinical Oncology and Radiobiology Research Network (ACORRN).
ACORRN - Action Radiotherapy helps individual researchers and groups from the different professions in radiotherapy research to come together to develop research projects aimed at improving treatments for patients. We also help researchers and clinical practitioners to actually implement these new treatments in the best way possible – ensuring that as many patients get access to the best care possible, while helping the NHS to get the best value for money. ACORRN – Action Radiotherapy’s full list of activities is given in our Charitable Objects.
We are launching this charity with an ambitious £5 million fundraising campaign. With this money we will help transform the face of radiotherapy research and development in the UK, leading to better treatments – curing more patients with fewer side effects.
£5 million will help us to establish a radiotherapy research platform which would also underpin and complement other radiotherapy research projects and initiatives in the UK. Among other things, we will be able to:
- Give grants for research into improving radiotherapy treatments;
- Work with patients to identify priorities and ensure their needs are met;
- Keep improving our interactive website to meet the needs of researchers, staff and patients;
- Increase the numbers of radiotherapy researchers and expert staff in the UK;
- Help to bring together researchers in the UK to improve radiotherapy;
- Help develop National Centres of Excellence in radiotherapy research and treatment;
- Work with policy makers to prioritise radiotherapy research and clinical practice.
This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to patients with cancer. There are many different ways in which you can help make this possibility become a reality by donating to ACORRN, holding a fundraising event or undertaking a sponsored activity.
