ACORRN - Action Radiotherapy is a new UK cancer charity dedicated to improving the treatment and cure of cancer patients who are treated with radiotherapy. ACORRN - Action Radiotherapy was formally launched at a reception at the House of Lords on Tuesday 13th July.
Did you know…?
- That 50% of patients receive radiotherapy as part of their treatment, and that 40% of those patients will be cured of their cancer by the radiotherapy?
- That radiotherapy is second only to surgery in its potential to cure cancer?
- That small improvements in how we give radiotherapy could mean we could cure many more patients?
- That demand for radiotherapy services is predicted to increase by 91% by 2016?
- That only 6% of the total amount of money spent on cancer research in the UK is spend on radiotherapy research?
- That radiotherapy research gets very little support from commercial companies?
How ACORRN - Action Radiotherapy is helping…
ACORRN - Action Radiotherapy is the only one of the UK’s charities for cancer which solely supports radiotherapy research. ACORRN is a national charitable research network of over 1600 multidisciplinary members all working together to find better and safer ways of treating patients with radiotherapy, and to cure more patients with cancer.
We work together with researchers, funders, policy makers, patients and the NHS to improve radiotherapy services and treatments for cancer patients. For more information visit our What we do section.
ACORRN - Action Radiotherapy has an ambitious £5 million fundraising plan which will help to change the face of radiotherapy research in the UK.
How you can help…
ACORRN - Action Radiotherapy is entirely dependent on charitable donations, we receive no government or commercial funding.
